Judith Gilbert met Gary Snyder when she was a youth, and he helped form a context for the kinds of questions she had—particularly how to end war. She practiced 19 years as a resident at San Francisco Zen Center, and nine years as a resident in three other residential sanghas with Zentatsu Baker, Thich Nhat Hanh, and Shohaku Okumura. She leads Wild Mind Sangha, a virtual sitting and study group based in affiliation with Hosho Coyote. She taught middle and high school and ran a company of multilingual ecommerce outside the monastery door—many ages, many walks of life, many languages. Mostly she is known to raise a quizzical eyebrow.
