Hakusho Johan Ostlund lived and practiced at San Francisco Zen Center from 2006 to 2020. He was ordained as a Soto Zen priest by Green Gulch Abbess Furyu Nancy Schroeder in 2012 and began teaching as Shuso (Head Student), under her guidance, in 2016. During his time in residence at SFZC, Hakusho served in several leadership positions, including as Tanto (Head of Practice) at Tassajara and as Ino (Head of Meditation Hall) at Green Gulch Farm. He now lives with his wife in Southeastern Vermont where he is the resident teacher and founder of the Brattleboro Zen Center. He is currently pursuing a Masters of Divinity degree at the Institute of Buddhist Studies, Berkeley.
