Edward Espe Brown

Edward Brown has been practicing Zen since 1965. Ordained as a Zen priest by Suzuki Roshi in 1971, who gave him the name Jusan Kainei, Longevity Mountain Peaceful Sea, he received Dharma Transmission from Mel Weitsman in 1996. He is the author of several books, including No Recipe: Cooking as Spiritual Practice, and also edited a book of Suzuki Roshi lectures, Not Always So.

In 2007 he was featured in Doris Dörrie's movie How to Cook Your Life. 2025 will see the release of the 55th Anniversary edition of his The Tassajara Bread Book.

Ed is the founding teacher of the Peaceful Sea Sangha.
