Join us for an engaging session with Peter Coyote, an award-winning actor, narrator, author and Zen Buddhist priest, as he delves into his latest book, Zen in the Vernacular: Things As It Is. This event promises an insightful exploration of Zen Buddhism's practices as tools to understand and navigate modern life.

Schedule:

  • 5:30 –6:15 pm: Peter Coyote presents the core concepts of his book, exploring the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path. We’ll investigate how Zen can serve as a creative problem-solving tool, and how the precepts can act as a moral guide for the complexities of daily life.
  • 6:15 –7:00 pm: Open Q&A session. Participants are encouraged to engage with Peter, asking questions and sharing insights on how the teachings resonate with their personal experiences.

Book Description:

Zen in the Vernacular offers a unique look, loosening (but not removing) the traditional Japanese ‘gift-wrapping’ to reveal the Buddha's timeless teachings. Peter Coyote invites readers to apply these insights to their everyday lives, emphasizing practical aspects of Zen, and engagement with political life as a spiritual practice. Whether you are a lifelong practitioner or new to Zen, this book provides accessible guidance on incorporating spiritual practices into daily routines.
