Zazen is simply the Dharma gate of peace and bliss, the practice-realization of totally culminated awakening.—Eihei Dogen

Fukanzazengi is Dogen’s fundamental instructions for zazen. Partly borrowed from prior Chinese texts, Dogen adds attitudinal instructions about Zen practice. He describes the essential art of zazen, and addresses the importance of sustaining practice even after realizing awakening.

This seminar will feature close reading of and commentary on the Fukanzazengi text, including examining related materials from other Zen and Dogen teachings, with time for questions and discussion.
