Silent Illumination is not merely a conceptual understanding or a rigid technique; it is the embodiment of the natural awakened mind. It is the simultaneous cultivation of stillness and clear-seeing, quiescence and luminosity, samādhi and prajñā. Through this practice, we tap into our inherent wisdom and awaken to our true nature, which is already present and always free.
During this session, Guo Gu will explore various expedient means to incorporate Silent Illumination into their existing seated meditation practice and discover how to integrate the essence of Silent Illumination into their daily lives. Guo Gu will draw inspiration from the writings of Chan master Hongzhi Zhengjue (1091–1157), whose seminal texts provide profound insights into the practice.
This session promises an engaging Q&A segment, granting participants an opportunity to seek clarity on any queries and deepen their grasp on Silent Illumination.
This workshop is the second in a two-part series with Guo Gu, preceded by Silent Illumination & Shikantaza: A Deep Dive into Chan and Zen Practices, a dialogue moderated by Abbot Jiryu Rutschman-Byler of the San Francisco Zen Center on Saturday, January 20, 2024, 2 - 3:30pm PT.
Please note that while it is not mandatory to attend both sessions, doing so will provide a more comprehensive understanding. Recordings of the sessions will be available.
