This second online seminar led by Taigen Dan Leighton focuses on Dongshan’s Song of the Jewel Mirror Samadhi (Hokyo Zammai), a central teaching in Soto Zen. The session also examines the Five Positions (or Five Degrees/Ranks), Dongshan’s framework for understanding the dynamic integration of phenomenal reality with universal wholeness.

These teachings, celebrated in both Soto and Rinzai traditions, form a cornerstone of Zen philosophy. Discussions are based on Taigen’s book, Just This Is It: Dongshan and the Practice of Suchness (Shambhala).

Learn more about Part I in this series: Dongshan’s Koans and the Practice of Suchness, 2/15.

Attendance at both seminars is encouraged for a fuller understanding of Dongshan’s teachings, but each session is designed to stand on its own.
