To study the Buddha way is to study the self. To study the self is to forget the self. To forget the self is to be actualized by myriad things.
— Dogen Zenji
Genjokoan addresses deep human questions, encourages us to study the dynamic functioning of practice in our lives, and guides our continuous effort to do so. With zazen as our primary teacher, we will flesh out the practical guidance in Genjokoan.
Dogen, the 13th-century Zen master and founder of the Japanese Soto school of Zen, is known for his profound and poetic teachings. His writings explore the nature of existence, practice, and awakening, but they can sometimes feel challenging to grasp. This class is designed to make Dogen’s insights more accessible, offering a supportive space for both experienced practitioners and those newer to his teachings. If you have an ongoing meditation practice and a curiosity about how Dogen’s words can illuminate your own path, this class will nurture a deepening of vow in your practice life.
