Description

Saturday, March 8, 9 am–4:30 pm, in the Wheelwright Center

Weaving together mindfulness and contemporary psychology, this workshop explores how to best take care of ourselves by relating to depression and anxiety with compassion and understanding. Our purpose is for participants to learn and practice how to interrupt conditioning that hinders feeling better and notice what is good in our lives. We encourage each student through skillful means to cultivate common sense practices that help us manage and reduce chronic feelings of unhappiness.

Our focus for the day will be on direct experience—seeing and disrupting the habitual mind patterns that lead to depression and anxiety. We will practice uncovering the natural state of a quiet mind, slowing down enough to see what is actually happening when we feel depressed, anxious, or both. As we cultivate the opportunity to be with what is truly happening with awareness and clarity, we can respond to difficulties consciously, with ease and new choices, rather than with a reactivity that can make things worse.

During this workshop, you will discover how it is possible for you to:

  • Be released from the limiting storylines that you and others have told you about yourself
  • Learn new skills that help untangle painful thoughts and self-criticism
  • Build the capacity to be with emotional pain and distress with strength and courage
  • Cultivate self-confidence and self-esteem as you practice using re-sculpting tools
  • Learn to offer compassion and acceptance to yourself and others
  • Cultivate a natural experience of peace, ease, and well-being
  • Experience deeper authentic connection, presence, and vitality
  • Feel better and have a more satisfying relationship to life

All are welcome. Appropriate for those who are new to meditation and for experienced meditators.
