In the Conference Center at 308 Page Street.
As the spring equinox draws nearer, the light returns, and the darkness recedes, we welcome back two Butoh dancers from Seattle, Joan Laage and Kaoru Okumura, as well as two Bay Area artists, Shoshana Green and Kevin Corcoran.
Piercing Heart
Created by Joan Laage/Kogut Butoh
Commissioned music by Bill Horist
So many thoughts and desires pierce our consciousness and our hearts, sometimes settling, other times escaping through the fleeting air. Where do we find our freedom and peace? In confinement or total abandonment?
Piercing Heart has been performed at Shimmer: Seattle Summer Butoh Festival (with live music by Bill Horist), at the Chapel venue in Seattle, and at an experimental music festival in Vienna (with musicians Florian Feit and Christoph Punzmann).
RASEN–Resonant Continuum
Created & performed by Kaoru Okumura
Music recorded by Joy Von Spain ft. Jackie An, Masaaki Masao, Lori Goldston
Through collapsing darkness, spirals rise,
Toward the azure-vaulted skies.
In intimate void we dare descend,
As echoes of infinity suspend.
Shoshana Green and Kevin Corcoran
Performance Description
This work is inspired by the notion of “being with.” It explores with-ness (with) what is “happening” or present within a space of soft dimensions. It is a collaboration with a co-arising of everything, no-thing and tension emerging within a moment of desire and receding of expectations
