Sowing the Moon Teahouse
Tea & Zen Seminar Wednesday, July 31 – Sunday, August 4. Chaji Workshop Sunday, August 4 – Tuesday, August 6. The Eighth Annual Tea and Zen Seminar This Seminar gives the opportunity to study tea in the Urasenke tradition, join the community in Zen meditation, explore the connection between Zen and the Way of Tea, and enjoy the relaxed setting of a temple in the midst of a National Recreation Area. This year, for the first time, two days of chaji practice will also be offered, immediately following the Seminar. Participants may attend both the Seminar and Chaji Workshop, or either event separately. The Seminar and Workshop will make use of the three tea rooms and kitchen of the Green Gulch teahouse, as well as the roji. The daily schedule includes meditation, and instruction in temae (nyumon, konarai, shikaden, okuden). There will also be instruction in mizuya procedures, okashi making, and chashaku carving. A highlight of the seminar is practice with chabana, selecting and placing flowers from the extensive Green Gulch garden. The chaji workshop will include instruction in preparations and cooking for a shojin ryori (vegetarian temple food) shogo chaji and in being a guest. Overnight accommodations, including vegetarian meals, are available in Green Gulch guest facilities. *Those coming from out-of-town are advised to arrive on July 30. Accommodations are also available the night of August 6.
