Me, Myself and I: To Have, To Hold, and Then To Let Go When Needed, CC 6/2/13

Sunday, June 2, 2013,  9am – 4pm
Buddha Hall at 300 Page Street
with Keiryu Liên Shutt

How does “me, myself and I” contribute to a sense of suffering? In this one-day workshop, we’ll look at when the concept of “I” arises and how our effort to justify, verify, or solidify an idea of “me as X-person” is a point in which dis-ease/suffering can typically reside.

We will briefly discuss distinctions between the psychological and the Buddhist concepts of self and not-self. However, the intention of the day is to use Dharma teachings, meditation, creative exercises and group discussions to identify when concepts of self tend to arise and solidify, and then learn how to bring compassion and lightness to these moments. When we are able to identify and become flexible with our sense of “me, myself and I,” the possibility for non-suffering increases.

Open to those looking for an experiential, engaging exploration of our sense of self and how it plays out as we go about our ordinary lives; not a scholarly approach.
