The Body, Meditation and the 11th Step, CC 11/3

Saturday, November 3
1:30 - 5 pm
with Ryotan Cynthia Kear

Embodying our twining practices of meditation and recovery is a rich undertaking. How can these bodies be both vital refuges for us as well as the stable, steady seat of our practice? How can meditation be, as Dogen states, the dharma gate of bliss and repose?

Please join the Meditation and Recovery Sangha as we explore this topic. During this gentle half day we'll sit several periods of zazen, do kinhin (walking meditation), engage in body work and have a dharma talk.

"The most important step in breaking free of a life dominated by stress and anxiety is to be present for what's actually happening rather than to be swept away with our ideas about what MIGHT happen to us later. There is a difference between actually living an event, open to all the details of its immediacy, and thinking about it beforehand. Our heads know certain things but when we are present with our bodies, constantly receiving somatic information - which our intellects might not even be aware of - something magic happens: the situation becomes fuller and assumes an integrity our heads could not even comprehend. So much stress comes from our imaginings, our projections onto the future, rather than the reality of the experience."
- Darlene Cohen
