Article on Sangha News: Straight to the Source – Gil Fronsdal on the Inner Structure of Mindfulness Practice

The Process of Insight and Concentration in the Buddha's teaching on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness.

The Buddha's most comprehensive instruction on mindfulness practice is in the Discourse on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness. By building on awareness of breath, body, feelings, and mind, the discourse gives instruction on developing insight into the psychological dynamics directly connected to liberation. The structure of the practice described in the discourse involves a natural process of inner transformation that follows from the development of mindfulness and concentration working together.

This inner structure, often overlooked, will first be described in lectures, and then explored through meditation instruction and periods of meditation.
