Teaching yoga since 2000, Christy has studied in India with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and S.N. Goenka and in the U.S. with a variety of teachers including Sarah Powers, Paul Grilley, John Friend, Mata Amritanandamayi, T.K.V. Desikachar, and H.H. the Dalai Lama. In her teaching, Christy emphasizes mindfulness, breath and alignment; strengthening and moving from core; and cultivating one's highest wellbeing for the benefit of the planet and all beings. Drawing on ancient yogic teachings and elements of the Ashtanga, Iyengar, Anusara and Yin Yoga traditions, Buddhism, and other wisdom traditions, she weaves a creatively flowing, invigorating yet calming, centering yet expanding exploration of Self through Asana.
Christy teaches Vinyasa/Flow and Yin Yoga in the San Francisco Bay area and leads workshops and retreats in the U.S. and abroad. She also teaches privately for individuals and groups and volunteers time to teach yoga to inmates in the "Lifers' Sangha" at San Quentin Prison who are part of the Prison Yoga Project.
Prior to teaching yoga: Christy grew up in San Luis Obispo, CA. During high school, she spent a year as an exchange student in Brazil. In 1993, she graduated from U.C. Santa Barbara with a B.A. in Latin American & Iberian Studies and a Political Science certificate in Global Peace & Securities.
