Explore Zen practice and the natural wild beauty of Tassajara.

In this retreat, we will explore nature and the essence of Zen awakening through meditation, group discussions, and day hikes exploring the wilderness backcountry around Tassajara. Our hikes will range from two to six miles in length. Rugged mountains graced with spring wildflowers provide inspiration to cultivate and nurture awareness. Listen deeply to the silence of nature and discover how mindfulness practice deepens our lives. This wonderful doorway to the heart of mountain Zen is satisfying for both beginners and experienced practitioners.

Retreat fee: $265 ($225/Member)

Steven Harper, M.A.

Steven Harper is a wilderness guide, author, and consultant. He has taught at Esalen Institute for 30 years and is a resident of Big Sur. A student of Buddhism since 1972, he also has an M.A. in Psychology.

Leslie James

Leslie James is the Abiding Teacher at Tassajara and has practiced at San Francisco Zen Center since 1971. She received lay dharma transmission from Tenshin Reb Anderson in 2001. She has two grown children and lives at Tassajara with her husband.
