Sustainable Living

Many people visiting Tassajara are immediately and often profoundly affected by the beauty and untouched quality of the surrounding wilderness.  Care about human impact comes naturally with this appreciation. Simple, rustic living and the communal setting of our living arrangements foster sharing and conservation of all resources, even ones we take for granted in our lives outside of this valley, such as water and electricity.

Recycling, organic food, water and energy conservation, composting, use of native plants and organic gardening practices, bio-degradable soaps and cleaning supplies, solar power generation (we now derive all of our electricity from our newly expanded solar panel array), and geothermal heating all speak to our commitment to taking care of this valley and the delicate balance of its many ecosystems.

We invite you to join us in this endeavor to live lightly and “leave no trace.”
