Rev. Keiryu Liên Shutt, LCSW, was born into a Buddhist family in Vietnam. Her meditation practice began in the Insight tradition and led her to co-founding the Buddhists of Color. She started her Soto Zen training at Tassajara, San Francisco Zen Center's monastery. Ordained and Dharma transmitted by Zenkei Blanche Hartman, Liên has practiced monastically in Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Having worked for many years as a social worker in the field of homelessness, Liên’s teachings are focused on making Zen accessible to all, bringing the deep settledness of traditional practices into everyday life.
