Watershed & Watershed Work Party Days Every season, along with our colleagues at Muir Woods National Monument, we offer a collaborative series of classes, walks, work parties and celebrations in honor of the Redwood Creek Watershed where we live and practice.
A 2010 continuing organic gardening series on the principles and practices of growing fruit, vegetables, flowers and herbs. Each class offers full instruction on the cultivation, fertilization, propagation and care of a healthy and productive garden.
Would you like to explore the life of a bee through the eyes of a child, visit a beehive, taste a drop of honey on a sorrel leaf? Would you enjoy digging through the compost pile and teaching a child what plants need to grow? Come join our team of environmental educators and learn to guide small groups of school children through the garden and farm at Green Gulch. We are looking for committed volunteers to participate in a year-long weekly program working with visiting schools from the San Francisco Bay Area.
Environmental Education I learn again and again how alive and responsive to nature children are….It is such a pleasure to share the basic joy of knowing where one’s food comes from. You can grow it, pick it, eat it. It's that simple. (Sukey Parmelee, Educational Outreach Coordinator, Green Gulch)
Application Deadline: The number of applicants for the 2010 season has exceeded the number of spaces we have. You may send an application for us to keep on file in case of a cancellation.
The 2010 Apprenticeship begins in April and ends in October.
Green Gulch is a Soto Zen Buddhist community and thriving organic farm and garden located just north of San Francisco, nestled in a valley bordered by Mount Tamalpais, the Golden Gate National Recreation area, and the Pacific Ocean. For 15 years we have offered apprenticeships which emphasize meditation practice, study/instruction in Buddhist teachings, and hands-on work experience and instruction in organic gardening/farming methods.
IN THEIR OWN WORDS: Read profiles of six former farm apprentices.
The Garden The garden at Green Gulch offers us an opportunity to bring our meditation and work practice into relationship with the lively world of plants.
