Tuesdays, 7:30 - 9 pm
October 23 - November 27
with Eijun Linda Cutts

“When doing zazen, what precepts are not upheld, and what merits are not produced?” - Dogen, Shobogenzo zuimonki

"But for us, precepts—observation of precepts and practice of zazen is same thing, you know, not different [just] as our everyday life and practice, zazen practice, is one." - Suzuki Roshi, August 1, 1970

In this class we will study the 16 Bodhisattva precepts as the full expression of our awakened nature, and reflect on how to skillfully practice them. We will look at the origin of the precepts, discuss and explore precept practice in situations of daily life, and prepare for the full moon ceremonies of October and November. There will also be an opportunity to write, learn and recite by heart, and work in smaller groups. Practicing the Precepts is the gate to Zen practice and a way to bring the compassion and the wisdom of the Buddha into our lives.

Six-week class series fee: $90; $81 current SFZC members; $72 limited income
