Being Here

Accommodations

San Francisco Zen Center, located at Page and Laguna streets, offers six charming guest rooms for short-term stays. This is a convenient and economical way to stay in the city while experiencing life in a Zen Buddhist temple and enjoying the serene elegance of a building designed by Julia Morgan.

Guest Student Information
Our Guest Student Program offers short-term residency (one to six weeks) to those interested in beginning or continuing Zen practice with the support of a community. Guest students participate in the daily life of City Center, which includes zazen (sitting meditation), services (sutra chanting), work (frequently of a physical nature), and meals.

City Center Work Practice Apprenticeship (WPA) Program

To better accomplish our mission, “to express, make accessible, and embody the wisdom and compassion of the Buddha,” the San Francisco Zen Center has developed a Work Practice Apprenticeship (WPA) Program for Zen students who are ready to enter a one-year, entry-level Zen training program.

Residential Practice at City Center
The City Center Resident Training Program is designed to support Zen students to sit zazen, practice intimately with each other and with the bodhisattva precepts, and gain a thorough understanding of what it is to take refuge in Buddha, Dharma and Sangha.
