Zen Student Reports on Climate March and Develops Environmentally Focused Events at SFZC
The Ecosattvas is an environmental awareness and education group composed of both residential and nonresidential SFZC sangha members. The City Center branch of the Ecosattvas is dedicated to improving our ecoliteracy, as well as that of our neighbors and friends. Ecoliteracy can be understood as the awareness of the natural world, and how we humans interact with, and within, the natural world. We aim to educate ourselves and our community through invited speakers and discussion events, films, and other formats as necessary. Please join us as we expand our horizons and learn about the Earth and environmental issues, together. Ecosattva events will be posted on the calendar page of the City Center website.

Speaker: Thanissara

Thanissara will offer a poetry reading from her new book, Heart of the Bitter Almond Hedge Sutra, followed by a talk about the climate emergency.

About the Book
"This poem weaves together contrasting themes; that of our deepest heart, which feels the intimacy of all things, and the walls the mind constructs, which separates all things. This paradox is contextualized by the Heart Sutra with its revelation of a seamless world, and the Bitter Almond Hedge, planted around Cape Town by early European Settlers in their attempt to keep Africa out...."
