Hondo Dave Rutschman

Hondo Dave Rutschman is a Soto Zen priest and a hospice grief counselor. He began Zen practice in Texas, sitting regularly at the Austin Zen Center, Houston Zen Center, and (the earliest version of) San Antonio Zen Center. He received jukai from Seirin Barbara Kohn in 2005, and ordained as a priest with Setsuan Gaelyn Godwin in 2010. He spent time at Tassajara in 2006-7 and 2009, doing practice periods with Tenshin Reb Anderson, Ryushin Paul Haller, and Myogen Steve Stücky. From 2008 to 2012, he worked on koan introspection with Myoun James Ford of Boundless Way Zen. These days, he sits when he can at the Berkeley Zen Center. He lives in the East Bay with his wife Devon Miller and their two young children, where he also maintains a small private practice as a therapist.
