Contemplative Caregiver Practice Group

With Jennifer Block and others
City Center
(*See prerequisite below)

This group is for family, community and professional caregivers who are interested in strengthening their caregiving through reflection on Buddhist teachings and contemplative practices. It is a time and place for caregivers to create community and further develop the skills taught in the Contemplative Caregiver Courses taught throughout the year at SFZC and other venues. The group is facilitated by Jennifer Block and other faculty from the Contemplative Caregiver Courses.

We meet in cycles throughout the year, with multiple meetings per cycle as listed below. Participants enroll for each cycle, and commit to attend in-person meetings and to practice regular meditation. Each cycle features a Buddhist theme such as compassion for all beings, equanimity in times of change, and wise discernment in our actions. A study guide of relevant readings and reflection exercises on each theme is provided on a group website.

Each meeting begins with meditation, followed by a short talk by the facilitator. We then have time for discussion about how our caregiver practice is going. All who share the intention to develop greater skill and confidence in caregiving are welcome. Fundamentally, we agree that mindfulness practice strengthens our capacity to serve others, and that study of Buddhist teachings is an effective way to sustain our caregiving practice.

*Prerequisite: Those who have participated in a Contemplative Caregiver Course with Jennifer Block are invited to participate in this group. It is also open to those who have an established Buddhist practice and care for others in a professional capacity. Participation in a caregiver workshop or a brief interview with Jennifer Block is a prerequisite for participation in this group. For listings of all of upcoming qualifying courses, please visit sfzc.org/ccc.  To schedule a brief interview with Jennifer, email rezoffice@sfzc.org.

Sliding scale fee: $75-125 per cycle. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
