Buddhist Basics, CC 10/29

With Kyosho Valorie Beer
in the Conference Center at 308 Page Street

Sunday, October 29, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

This daylong workshop will give you a solid understanding of the Buddha’s basic teachings about the cause and end of suffering.

When your friends ask you what Buddhism is all about, what do you say? Could you answer that question clearly and confidently—in one sentence? This workshop will give you a robust understanding of the foundational teachings of the Buddha: Four Noble Truths, Twelvefold Chain of Causation, and the Noble Eightfold Path (with a side trip through karma)—and how they all hang together to explain the cause and end of suffering.

In this workshop, we’ll look at the Buddha's basic teachings in plain language, explore the interconnections among these basic teachings, examine a current situation in light of these teachings, and create a personal “script” that each participant can use when asked the question, “What is Buddhism all about anyway?”

Please bring a bag lunch.

Fees: $70; $63 current SFZC members; $56 limited income. Some partial scholarships available.
