Buddha’s Robe Sewing Retreat 2019, CC 6/14 – 6/17

Led by Kiku Christina Lehnherr and Timothy Wicks

Friday, June 14, 2 pm through Monday, June 17, 12 noon
In the City Center Sewing Room
Register by Friday, June 14

Called in Japanese Fukuden-kai, a gathering for sewing the robe which is called a “field of blessings,” this retreat will be devoted to sewing Buddha’s robe and sitting zazen. Retreatants will join the City Center community for morning and afternoon zazen, service and soji (temple cleaning), and will sew during the day. There will be a revised zazen schedule for Saturday afternoon, Sunday, and Monday morning when the temple community is not usually sitting.

We will join the temple community for regularly scheduled meals on Friday and Saturday through lunch. Self-serve bagels are available in the kitchen on Sunday morning. Saturday dinner and Sunday lunch and dinner will be purchased locally and served in the dinning room.

The retreat is open to those who have permission from their teacher to sew a rakusu in preparation for receiving the precepts, or an okesa for priest ordination. Those who have already received the precepts and wish to sew another rakusu for themselves or someone else are also welcome, as are those who are training to teach robe sewing.

If you would like more information about the retreat, you may contact Tim Wicks via email – [email protected]

This retreat is particularly suited for those who want to sew Buddha’s robe and are unable to attend weekly classes at City Center or Green Gulch.

Participants may attend all or any part of this retreat. Commuters are welcome.
