with Dr. David Bullard and Zesho Susan O'Connell
in the Conference Center at 308 Page Street
Saturday, June 14, 2014
9 am - 4 pm (CE credits available—see note* below)
Disappointments, arguments and fights, feeling misunderstood and distant from one another, getting or giving the “silent treatment”—we often find these dynamics woven into interactions with the family, friends and partners we love and care for.
This workshop will provide roadmaps for having healing conversations after the breakdowns created by disappointment or anger in intimacy. We will examine roadblocks to the healing that deep listening provides, and explore four mantras suggested by Thich Nhat Hanh and other specific ways to help us break through the impasses often experienced in emotionally close relationships. In addition to discussion, we will utilize group and dyadic exercises and brief personal writing to help us become more present and to increase resilience after reactivity and defensiveness, all while deepening our wisdom and compassion.
Together we will study how to better engage and embody relevant Zen practices, paired with practical teachings learned from many years of helping couples have deeper conversations and healing.
Singles as well as couples, therapists and non-ists are most welcome. Fees:
$100; $90 current SFZC members; $80 limited income. *Note about CE credits:
